Room 5 Seed Shop

Room 5 has a seed shop. You can buy seeds to grow in your garden. We have given every family at our school a notice with the seeds that they can buy from our shop.
We are getting our seeds from Kings Seeds

Look at what the seeds can grow into....
Organic Pea Progress
Sunflower Golden Toasted
Organic Zucchini Black Beauty

We will use the money we fundraise to help our friends at Rafiki Mwema in Kenya and we might even buy things for our school and Kitchen Garden.
If you need a new notice or would like to know more come and see us in Room 5.

Baking for Grandparents Day

Room 5 has had a busy day baking biscuits for Grandparents Day on Friday.

We melted the butter, sugar, milk, baking soda and golden syrup.

We mixed it with the sultanas, flour and vanilla essence.

We put spoonfuls of the mixture on a baking tray.
We baked the biscuits in the oven for 12 minutes.

We counted how many biscuits we made. We had to count a lot of biscuits.
There were 94 biscuits!
We hope our Grandparents like their biscuits for morning tea on Friday.

Apple Muffins

We made Apple Muffins.
Robyn from Enviro Schools gave us some apples from her tree.
We had to peel and grate the apples.
Luckily we had one of our Mum's, Jane, to help us.

Sharing our baking

We love to bake in Room 5.
Some of us even help to bake and cook at home too.
Look who made yummy chocolate chip cookies at home!!
It was a new recipe so they had to do a test batch.
They tasted delicious.
I wonder if we can try the recipe?
Sometimes when we cook at home we bring Anna a taste test.
What a lucky teacher!

Banana Cake

We made a banana cake using the kitchen in Room 6. We are very lucky to be able to have a kitchen in our learning space.
We had to cut up the butter before we put it in the cake mixer. Some of us thought it was cheese!

We needed to get a lemon from the tree outside our classroom.
We all helped to bake the cake. We had to stir the mixture.

When the cake was baking it smelt delicious.
The cake even tasted delicious.
We shared the cake with the teachers.
They told us it was yum!

Winter Planting

One of our Mum's came to help us in the Kitchen Garden. Miriam helped us weed both our gardens.

She had also brought us some lettuce and broccoli seedlings for us to grow.

We had to put the seedlings into the hole and then pat the soil around the seedling.
Miriam also gave us broad bean seeds to plant. We had to poke a hole into the soil with our finger and then put the seed into the hole.

Thank you Miriam for your help in our garden.

We had to mix all the ingredients up.

The Feijoa Muffins were scrumptious.
We shared the muffins with the teachers. All the teachers thought they tasted delicious.

Harvest Festival

The harvest festival was yummy because we got to try heaps of food.
It was fun because we were with lots of other classes.

There were silverbeet rolls and roti.
We ate sunflower seeds. They tasted like peanut butter.
There was a chilli tomato sauce with flat bread. It was spicy.

There were beans as well.
There was lettuce and tomatoes. We ate the tomatoes with our hands.
We even got to taste potatoes.

Banana Muffins for Harvest Festival

Tomorrow we are having a Harvest Festival at school. Today we made banana muffins so we can share them with the other classes at our school.
Anna had frozen bananas. They were cold like an iceblock. The skins on the bananas were black not yellow.

We put in yoghurt, 1 egg, sugar, flour, and oil. Then we mixed it all up.

We poured the mixture into the muffin tin.
After they were cooked we had a taste test. The muffins tasted yum.

Tomorrow we will share banana muffins, zucchini cake and herb scones with the rest of our  school.
