Being safe around dogs.

Today we had a visit from Amanda from Hamilton City Council.
She talked to us about being safe around dogs.

If we see a dog we would like to pat
we have to do these things -
  1. Ask the owner to pat the dog. "Can I pat your dog please?
  2. If they say yes. You make a fist with your hand and let the dog sniff it.
  3. Then you can pat the dog under their chin or on their chest.

If a dog runs up to us we stand like a tree and cross our arms over our chest.

If a dog pushes us over we need to make a ball with our body and put our hands over our neck.

Turangawaewae

This term we have been learning about Turangawaewae.
An important place for us is our school.
Every class shared their learning by making a movie for our Turangawaewae Film Festival.
This is a version of our movie. Take a look and see what at school makes us happy.

Marae

Last week the whole school went to Te Kohinga Marama Marae at Waikato University.
We are waiting for the Powhiri to start so we can be welcomed onto the marae.

There were speeches in Te Reo Maori.
The powhiri took a long time.
 We sang two songs.
We got to go inside the Wharenui.

The carvings all told stories. Some of the stories happened a long time ago.

We liked being in the Wharenui.
We thought the carvings were very special and cool.
