Harvest Festival

The harvest festival was yummy because we got to try heaps of food.
It was fun because we were with lots of other classes.

There were silverbeet rolls and roti.
We ate sunflower seeds. They tasted like peanut butter.
There was a chilli tomato sauce with flat bread. It was spicy.

There were beans as well.
There was lettuce and tomatoes. We ate the tomatoes with our hands.
We even got to taste potatoes.

Banana Muffins for Harvest Festival

Tomorrow we are having a Harvest Festival at school. Today we made banana muffins so we can share them with the other classes at our school.
Anna had frozen bananas. They were cold like an iceblock. The skins on the bananas were black not yellow.

We put in yoghurt, 1 egg, sugar, flour, and oil. Then we mixed it all up.

We poured the mixture into the muffin tin.
After they were cooked we had a taste test. The muffins tasted yum.

Tomorrow we will share banana muffins, zucchini cake and herb scones with the rest of our  school.

Sharing Zucchini Cake

Look who has been busy baking at home with his Mum!
He made a zucchini cake at home.
He even helped grate the zucchini.

We shared the cake with Runu.

We shared the cake with Celia. She is the Ladies teacher in Room 6.
We shared the cake with Mrs Bobsien.

We loved eating the cake.
It tasted delicious.
Thank you for sharing.

Skyping

Room 4 is loving being able to Skype other classes around New Zealand.
We Skyped Room 2 at Maraekakaho School. They have a great blog where you can check out their learning. We loved dancing with Room 4 over Skype.

We also Skyped another Room 4! We thought that was really funny but they are Room 4 at Te Kauwhata Primary School.

We found out some things that are the same at our school and some things that are different. The other Room 4 have to wear a uniform and we don't. We both have Kitchen Gardens at our schools.

I like Skyping Room 4.

Greedy Cat stories

Greedy Cat by Joy Cowley
We wrote about our favourite parts of the Greedy Cat stories.

Click on the cover of our book so you can read our stories.

Cat stories

Greedy Cat

Room 4 has been reading a lot of books about Greedy Cat.
He is a cheeky cat who likes to sneak food.

We have read these stories together in class.
We have even recorded ourselves reading too.

Maths Games

We are learning how to play some maths games.
Some of us learnt how to play Number Bingo. You have to read the numbers carefully. It is a fun way to practice reading numbers.
We have also been using the maths links on our blog to play maths games.
Our favourite ones at the moment are Ladybird Spots and Teddy Bear.

Zucchini Cake

We have been baking again.
This time we showed the Migrant Mothers how to make a zucchini cake.
Room 4 finds it hard to say Migrant Mothers so we call them The Ladies. Their classroom is in Room 6 where there is a kitchen.
Everyone helped baked the cake.
We grated the zucchini and measured the ingredients.
Anna even got to use a fancy machine called a cake mixer. The kids reminded Anna it wasn't a toy and to stop playing with it!

The cake tasted delicious. We loved the chocolate chips on top!
The Ladies said they would cook for us. We can't wait to see what they will make.
We think next time we will bake scones with them.

Thank you to our friend in Room 12 for giving us a new zucchini cake recipe.

The Koha Table

Every Wednesday Room 12 organises a Koha Table at morning tea time.
People bring things they have been growing in their gardens at school or at home to share or swap with other people.
We had 3 tomatoes that we had grown but Room 4 really needs a zucchini so we can make another zucchini cake.
We swapped our tomatoes for a zucchini.
Georgia brought some grapes from her house and so we could also have a taste of them. Some people thought they tasted sour and other people thought they tasted delicious.
Here is the zucchini Room 4 is going to use in the zucchini cake we will make.
Thanks Room 12 for organising the Koha Table.
We love sharing.

Fundamental Skills

We have been practicing running, galloping, leaping, skipping, and hopping. Sonja from Project Energize came and taught us some new games.
Some movements we found easy but some movements are tricky.
We are learning to keep trying when we find things hard.

Take a look at the video of us moving.

Butterfly Pictures

In the Orchard we used Kidpix to draw some butterflies.
It can be tricky using the tools to draw but we keep practicing so we get better.

These are the paint tools we use to make a background.

We use these tools to draw.
