Tutaekuri Potatoes

We harvested some potatoes from our garden. These potatoes are called tutaekuri which means dog poo in maaori. The shape of the potatoes does look a little bit like dog poo.
The tutaekuri were in the dirt. We had to dig with our hands to get them out. We got to hold them in our hands and then put them in the container. Looking for them was like finding treasure. They have dark skin and the inside is purple.
Look at all the potatoes we got.

Do you know how many potatoes there were?
We counted them and there were over 140 tutaekuri potatoes.

What do you think we should do with our potatoes?

Leaves

After our trip to Jubilee Bush we have been talking about all the leaves we saw. We were surprised that leaves could be so different.
We have written this book about leaves.

Jubilee Bush

Even though we went to Jubilee Bush over a week ago we talk about it a lot. Today we talked about our trip again and all the things we liked.
What did we like about our trip to Jubilee Bush?

What do we think other people would like about Jubilee Bush?

Jubilee Bush

We went on a great trip to Jubilee Bush which is at a park near our school.
We created a flowchart of our trip. We were very excited that we got to go on our school bus.
We had so much fun while we were there and we will share some of our learning with you over the next few weeks.
Here is a photopeach of our trip.

Our Butterflies

Yesterday Room 4 went on a trip. When we came back one of our butterflies had come out of his chrysalis.
That afternoon Lizzie noticed that the other chrysalis was beginning to move!
We watched the butterflies dry their wings and begin to move around.
Take a look at our photopeach of our beautiful butterflies.

Blogging

Room 4 has been blogging for 6 weeks.
Take a look at our vimeo of what we like about blogging so far.

This is what some of my students from 2011 thought made good blog posts.

What do you like about blogging?
What do you think makes a good blog post?

Metamorphosis

We have learnt a lot about metamorphosis after watching the caterpillars change on our swan plant.
Caterpillars hatch out of eggs. They like to eat leaves. The caterpillars get bigger and bigger. The caterpillar turns into a chrysalis. When the chrysalis is black we will know that the butterfly is about to hatch out.
We can't wait until our chrysalis becomes a butterfly.
Here is a short vimeo of the metamorphosis process that we learnt through a song.

Fabulous Friday

Look what some children made at choosing time today. They made a fabulous boat with the blocks.
The driver has a steering wheel and is up high. There is a big exhaust pipe. The animals are going for a ride in the boat. You can see the ocean from upstairs.
Some children made a band and others danced while they played.

Look at the Transformer.
First it's a car and then it becomes a robot with a really long neck.

Here is a sneak peek at some beautiful butterfly and caterpillar art work.

Caterpillar is a long word. There are 11 letters in caterpillar.
